China Brand Suing Apple Over Logo

It says it had the app store logo first

In a surprising twist, Apple is being sued by a Chinese company because of a similar logo. The company, called Kon, is a clothing brand founded in 2009 that’s based on the Sex Pistol’s Anarchy in the UK. The triangle is supposed to be skeleton bones that symbolize power over death.

Take a gander at the two logos below to see the similarities:

Apple’s recent change of its App Store logo back in August from a paintbrush, pencil and ruler to three sticks with rounded ends that form a triangle makes their logo similar but not exactly the same.

Kono says Apple’s new App Store logo used on iPhones and macOS is a violation of Chinese copyright law, and is asking the company to apologize publicly and pay damages. The Beijing Peopl’s Court has already accepted the case, and you can expect a ruling in the next few weeks. Coincidentally, Apple lost the trademark for the word “iPhone” to another Chinese brand: a leather goods vendor, in fact.
