CloudFone and Starmobile Soldout during the Holidays!

It looks like this month was a record-breaking year for local smartphone brands. We just confirmed from representatives of CloudFone and Starmobile that their latest flagship smartphones have all sold out. The CloudFone Thrill 430x (Php7,777) immediately grabbed tech headlines when it was announced that it packed a monstrous 4160mAh polymer battery, dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, 4.3-inch QHD screen, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Starmobile Crystal (Php7,990) also bannered tech sites and blogs boasting of a dual-core processor, dual sim capabilities, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and a gorgeous slim form factor with a 4.5-inch qHD display. With these specifications at these prices, it is a no-brainer that they would sell really well here in the Philippines.

Cherry Mobile also doing crazy sales

We’ve reported earlier that Cherry Mobile is having a difficult time keeping up with the demand for the fast-selling Cherry Mobile Flare. This is probably the reason why they’re launching several new models, like the Cherry Mobile Blaze (Php6,499), to spread the demand across various units.

Android Revolution is real and it is happening in the PH

All of these reports point to one thing — that there is a major shift in how technology is used here in the Philippines. More and more Filipinos are getting Android smartphones and the local brands are the ones driving demand. It will be very interesting to see how this will all play out in 2013. This is a signal though to developers and programmers to polish their skills in doing apps for Android. It will definitely be the battleground of the masses.

Let us know what you guys think about this development in the comments section below!

PS: We asked for official statements from CloudFone and Starmobile. We’ll revise this article and insert their statements as soon as we receive them.

  1. I got my starmobile crystal yesterday…wla sya LED indicator =(…ano App pwede gamitin to address that, ano pwede substitute na App?…i’ve tried NoLed from App store kaso di sya compatible sa Crystal..help naman please..

  2. The Cloudfone Thrill 430x is probably sold out from the distributor side, but is still available from many shops including Office Warehouse. The Starmobile Crystal arrives late and probably in very limited quantities, so it’s no wonder, it’s sold out. The Cherry Mobile Flare is the Elmo of this Christmas season, and probably sold many times more units than all of the of the other Android smartphones.

Noteworthy Smartphones that are still available includes the myPhone line, especially the a919 and a898, which is very well-made, that if not for the 7999 (a919) price tag could easily have given the Cherry Mobile line good competition. It;s IPS LCD is worth the 1500 difference (vs Cherry Mobile Titan) for me, but to each his own. The Kata 4.5 qHD Droid is also great but it’s 1500maH battery could be a downer, same with the Cherry Mobile Blaze.

Wish reviewers will focus on the difference in screens and memory (most have 4GB memory) but partitioning is different. Cloudfone and myPhone have more than a Gig as internal memory, whereas most Cherry Mobile has around 500MB. There are apps (like Live Wallpaper or Facebook) that will reside only on Internal Memory!). Also the interface is different. Starmobile and myPhone will label the two sim by name, whereas Cloudfone and Cherry Mobile will just says Sim 1 and Sim 2 (although Cloudfone allow you to rename them). In Cherry Mobile’s favor is that their ICS include online update option (if they come, although the Flare and Titan have one coming) which is especially great for bug fixes (Jellybean is too much to hope for).

  3. I heard that local app developers cannot publish their apps directly on the Google Play Store because the Philippines isn’t on the list that can sell apps?

  4. I purchased a Cloudfone 430X because of its promising BATTERY LIFE, of course not disregarding the RAM and CPU. I find myself charging everyday though I’m just an average user. The phone is great no doubt. It was full charged 5pm yesterday and its now down to 20% as of this writing. I have TASK KILLER AND BATTERY DEFENDER. I’m a TechSupport myself for Android Phones I know how and what can run the battery easily down. It’s just a bit of a let down.
