DJI’s Ronin-S Is A One-handed Mirrorless Stabilizer

Say goodbye to ungainly gimbals

Before today, if you wanted to steady videos with mirrorless cameras or full-sized SLRs, you had to turn to DJI’s rather voluminous Ronin camera rigs. These rigs aren’t the easiest to operate and are rather large and bulky – things that you’ll have to keep in mind when you’re shooting in cramped and confined spaces.

That won’t be a problem with the company’s new Ronin-S. It’s basically the company’s Osmo Mobile on steriods. The Ronin-S is built to accommodate both full-size DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, though the company is tight-lipped about the maximum weight their new hand-held gimbal can take. DJI says that it’s able to work with “the most popular camera and lens combinations” and says it’ll accommodate Canon’s 5D line, Panasonic’s GH-series and Sony’s Alpha mirrorless cameras.

The Ronin-S is powerful enough to keep your shots nice and smooth, with the operator controlling the action via a small thumbstick. There’s also pre-built shooting modes in the Ronin’s accompanying app, and the Sport shooting mode allows you to lock on a subject when things are moving quickly.

DJI has not officially set the price for the Ronin-S, unfortunately.
