A clear direction for the P lineup
While Huawei’s P line of smartphones has enjoyed limited success as of late, it’s positioning in the company’s high-end lineup has been a little wonky in light of recent releases. Previously it was the smaller flagship phone that complimented their bigger Mate series, but since the Mate S was released, it looks like that’s no longer the case.
A new leak for the upcoming P9 smartphone sheds some light on Huawei’s future plans for the line. The new leaks predictably show off a very premium-looking metal body but instead of a single camera setup that most smartphones are known for, the P9 has two rear cameras. Now a two camera setup isn’t new for Huawei as they’ve already made a phone with that setup before, but it’s interesting that they’re now putting the same tech in their main consumer lineup.
The dual-camera tech will allow for refocusing after the shot is taken. A laser autofocus module will ensure that all shots are properly in focus, and a dual LED flash completes the camera package.
The phone is tipped to come with a Kirin 950 SoC, 3GB of RAM and a Matli-T880 GPU. There’s 32GB of storage and 3900mAh battery which is quite large for a phone that has a display size of 5.2-inches, with a resolution of full HD.
There’s also reports that the new P series of smartphones will now be focused on the camera experience and may start using dual camera setups as standard.
