[Editorial] Why don’t Sony and Samsung stores follow their own official SRP?

[Editorial] Why don’t Sony and Samsung stores follow their own official SRP?

Rant starts now.

Since it was a weekend we decided to go around SM Megamall and check out what new gadgets were already on the shelves. We were a bit shocked to find out though that the official stores of Sony and Samsung in SM Cyberzone don’t even follow the announced suggested retail price of their new products. We were surprised at first but eventually we got a bit peeved, lol. Here are the overpriced products.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z

Overpriced.
Overpriced.

First we have the new Sony Xperia Tablet Z (Click to read our initial review). The SRP announced on Sony Mobile PH’s Facebook Page was Php35,990. How much was the Sony store selling it in SM Cyberzone? Php2,000 more. They were selling it for a whopping Php37,990. The saleslady even said that Php37,990 was the OFFICIAL price from Sony when we started asking why it was overpriced by Php2,000. When we showed her the announcement on the Facebook Page on our phone she even told us that what was posted there wasn’t official. Man…

Moving on.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3

Next we have the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (Click to read our initial review). Official SRP on the Samsung PH Facebook Page? Php23,990. How much was the Samsung store in SM Megamall selling it for? Php24,990. Php1,000 more than the SRP. We didn’t even bother asking anymore why it was over the SRP.

Samsung and Sony need to control their distributors

We would like to appeal to the executives of Sony and Samsung to have their official stores follow their official SRP for their products. It’s absolutely mind-blowing why that’s not the case. Hopefully both companies set more stringent rules so that standard pricing prevails.

PS: If you’re looking to buy the Xperia Tablet Z, you may want to get it from Widget City. They’re selling the 16GB WiFi variant for just Php25,490. The 16GB WiFI + LTE is priced at Php30,990, Php7,000 pesos less than what the Sony store in SM Cyberzone Megamall is selling it.

End Rant.
