Google Officially Takes The Wraps Off Of Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2

Google has finally announced their new, oft-leaked Pixel smartphones. The Google Pixel 2 comes in two variants, a smaller 5-inch variant and a bigger 6-inch phablet. The phones use aluminum bodies, with the top part using glass. The two new phones have the fastest ever fingerprint scanners say Google, and use dual-speakers in the front for maximum audio. Just like the renders, Google took out the 3.5mm jack, though they do give you a USB Type-C adapter.

The 5-inch Pixel 2 uses a full HD OLED display, while the 6-inch Pixel XL 2 uses a P-OLED, 18:9 panel with a QHD+ resolution. Both phones are IP67 water-resistant, and sport similar hardware no matter what screen size you pick.

Google’s acquisition of HTC has apparently paid off, since both devices have squeezable sides much like HTC U11. Squeezing the phone will bring up Google’s Assistant, which has been made more powerful by Google. Google hopes that their integration of their Assistant into the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL would make the two phones stand out from the competition, as the phones are capable of inserting themselves into your routine seamlessly, detecting the times when you go home, giving you updates on your commute as well as picking up where you left off in the podcast you were listening to.

Google’s two new flagships will obviously launch with Android Oreo, the latest iteration of the mobile OS. Google’s new flagship phones will always be updated first to the latest version of Android, and will also receive regular security updates throughout their lifetime.

As for the hardware, both phones will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The Google Pixel 2 will ship in three colors: Kinda Blue, Just Black and Clearly White, while the new Pixel 2 XL will be available in either black or two-tone black/white.

Google’s two new phones pack a 12-megapixel camera backed with Google’s machine learning algorithms. Google says that both phones have the highest DxOMark score of all time at 98, achieved by the company’s behind-the-scenes tweaks for the cameras. And unlike other phones that use depth of field effects with two cameras, machine learning algorithms and their on-device AI allows the Pixel 2 to apply depth of field with a single camera. The depth of field effect also applies to the front camera.

Google’s new phones are also beasts when it comes to recording video, as both phones use both OIS and EIS when recording video.

Google is pricing the Pixel 2 at $649 for the 64GB version, while the Pixel 2 XL will be priced at $849.
