Google Working on Android for Feature Phones

To compete against KaiOS?

When it comes to feature phones, KaiOS is currently the OS of choice. While it is expanding its market and adding new features, KaiOS might have competition as Google is reportedly making a version of Android geared towards feature phones.

In the image obtained by 9to5Google, the mystery phone—which looks like one of Nokia’s feature phones—has Google Assistant on the display, along with five icons below it: camera, an unknown app icon, app drawer, Chrome, and YouTube.

In another leaked screenshot, the YouTube UI has assistive icons below, showing that Google is working on a “no-touch” version of Android, where navigation is done via the keypad.

While 9to5Google could not fully validate the claims, these photos show Google’s best possible approach to porting Android to feature phones.
