It is time for Samsung to be great again

Following a low-key unveiling at MWC 2019, Samsung is bringing its new Galaxy A series of phones to our shores. The Galaxy A50 gets more premium features that include an in-display fingerprint scanner and a triple rear camera setup that features a 25-megapixel f/1.7 main camera, 5-megapixel f/2.2 depth camera, and 8-megapixel f/2.4 ultra-wide camera.

The Galaxy A30 is no slouch either, as it comes with a dual rear camera setup and a conventional rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

  1. Samsung Galaxy A30’s Exynos 7904 chipset is comparable to a Snapdragon 636 chipset although the Snapdragon one has better specs on paper in terms of core performance. Real life performance difference between the two chipsets is expected to be negligible though.

A30 on the average is Php 3K more expensive than its other brand counterparts with Snapdragon 636. What it has over them is:
    1. Protection (rated IP68)
    2. Better screen (AMOLED)
(possibly) 3. The rear camera has higher pixel count although the actual performance remains to be seen

  3. A50’s price is quite competive among the upper midrange segment

the only one true disruptor against it is Pocophone F1, similarly priced and has an actual flagship level SoC. if you’re a mobile gamer, you’ll love this although i’ve been one of the unlucky ones who got some touch issues from it

    A50’s advantage over F1:
    IP68 rating
    AMOLED screen
Triple cameras and higher pixel count (on paper only, actual performance remain to be seen)

  4. Could you confirm whether both A phones have IP68 protection? GSMArena writes that there is but a C4ETech video said that there was none, citing a misunderstanding with Samsung regarding the specs of these phones.

That being said, regardless of IP-rating, Samsung’s new phones are a good deal, considering the AMOLED display, USB-C, big batteries and availability of Pie out of the box (the A30 also has Pie, not Oreo; please edit spec sheet).

  5. Im worried about my pre-ordered samsung galaxy A50 here in the philippines because of the rumored weak plastic build that can cause mother board damage in bend accidents. I watched the bend test of the product on you tube bend test in indian video CNTech post.
