HMD Global Oy CEO Leaves Before Nokia Flagship Announcement

HMD Global Oy CEO Leaves Before Nokia Flagship Announcement

This can’t be good

The re-launch of Nokia brand by the folks behind HMD Global Oy couldn’t have gone any better. There’s a lot of buzz for the Nokia 3, 5 and 6, and the resurrected Nokia 3310 was basically the talk of the entire tech world when it was launched a few months earlier.

That’s why the sudden departure of its CEO, Arto Nummela, is so confusing. It’s not like HMD Oy has been doing poorly as of late, since they haven’t been around long enough to accumulate a lot of losses. And if you’re inclined to believe the rumors, the company is also on the cusp of launching their flagship devices, including the oft rumored Nokia 8.

According to a statement released by HMD Oy, Nummela’s departure was a “mutual agreement” which is a pretty vague and confusing to say the least. Why would the architect of the Nokia brand’s comeback suddenly leave when things were going so well?

Regardless, HMD Oy is still pushing through with their plans, which include the release of several flagship phones later this year.
