Huawei has finally unveiled their Android Nougat update plans, and it’s not looking good for people who bought their phones last year. It seems that only phones released this year are getting Google’s latest version of their mobile operating system, as well as Huawei’s own EMUI Android overlay, which is now in its fifth iteration.
Phones included in the upgrade plan are as follows: the Huawei Mate 8 phablet, the dual-camera toting Huawei P9 and P9 Plus, the mid-range P9 Lite and the recently announced (and US-bound) Nova and Nova Plus. Owners of the P8 and other older phones will need to pray to the update gods that the Chinese manufacturer announces updates for their favorite phones, but for now these are the devices that will be getting Nougat love.
Huawei has pledged to deliver Android Nougat and EMUI 5.0 for the Mate 8 and the P9 in the first quarter of next year, with the rest of the devices following a few weeks later.
