Huawei’s efforts on the P9 was largely about the camera. The P9 is the first phone that’s a direct result of their collaboration with German camera maker Leica, and sports a lot of heavy-duty tech in its shooters.

For starters, the P9 has dual 12-megapixel rear cameras on the back. Interestingly each camera has different sensors – the left one has an RGB sensor while the one on the right has a monochrome sensor. The monochrome sensor captures details of subjects, which is then combined with the color images resulting in amazing clarity and detail than a regular single-lens setup. The camera can also capture in RAW format.

Aside from the twin camera co-developed with Leica, the camera also sports a laser auto-focus system along with a revamped re-focusing feature. Huawei claims that the new refocus tech that’s in the P9 is better than their previous try in the Honor 6 Plus, since there’s more information available for the camera to process.

Huawei P9 3

Let’s talk about the rest of the phone – in typical Huawei fashion the P9 sports a full metal unibody design, with a fingerprint scanner embedded on the back. Huawei’s still shunning the QHD display that most other phones come with, opting instead for a full HD display.

Huawei P9 5

Two versions of the phone will be available to consumers – a 5.2-inch model and a bigger 5.5-inch P9 Plus. Huawei’s still using their homegrown, HiSilicon Kirin 955 processor. The smaller 5.2-inch model will be paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while the bigger 5.5-inch model will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
