IDC: Huawei’s Wearable Shipments Grow 282% in Q1 2019

Number 3 in wearables

While Apple is still #1 in the wearable game for now, the firm from Cupertino will soon have to contend with two powerhouses from China.

Research firm IDC is reporting that both Xiaomi and Huawei are hot in the heels of Apple in the wearable segment. And while Apple still a quarter of the wearable market all to themselves (25.8%) Xiaomi (13.3%) and Huawei (10%) is fast gaining ground in the wearable segment.

Huawei notably has grown 282.2% in the wearable segment in Q1 of 2019, shipping 5 million wearables in the first few months of 2019 compared to just 1.3 million during the same time period last year.

To put Huawei’s growth into context, Fitbit, a company that does nothing but wearables and smartwatches, only held the top 5 spot with just 5.9% of the market. Samsung slots in at number 4, with 8.7% of the market.
