Infinix Note 4 Quick Review: Sounds Familiar, Looks Familiar

Infinix launched the Note 4 and the Note 4 Pro recently. While we’re still waiting for the release date and the price of the Note 4 Pro, the company has already handed us a review unit for the base model to see what its capable of. Initial Impressions: We’ve Seen This Before… Haven’t We?

At the launch, Infinix said that a focus of theirs was making their devices look stylish and we do have to give the Infinix Note 4 a few points for that. It may be primarily built out of plastic, but the phone does look good; though it really does bear a striking resemblance to a certain Korean company’s flagship phablet that it also shares its name with.

It has a nicely curved back with a chamfered frame that helps you cradle the device in your hand and you’re definitely going to want to have a better grip on the device, because it is rather thick.

In terms of physical buttons and ports, you have the power button and volume rocker on the right side of the device.

Up on top is the 3.5mm audio jack.

On the bottom of the Note 4 are its microUSB port and its speaker grilles; though only one has an actual speaker.

No SIM trays here because the back is removable, so you can access the two mirco SIM card slots and its micro SD card slot as well.

The Infinix Note 4’s display has been downsized from 6-inches to 5.7-inches, but retains the same resolution as its previous iteration. You’re also getting a panel from Sharp and, so far, we’re liking what we’re seeing. It has nice vibrant colors, great viewing angles, and pretty decent sunlight legibility.

On the bottom of the Infinix Note 4’s display is its home button, which is flanked by capacitive navigation keys. Like most brands do, they’ve doubled up the home button as the fingerprint scanner. It’s not the fastest nor is it the most accurate, but does have an acceptable margin of error.

For its cameras, you have an 8-megapixel front camera for taking selfies with. The rear shooter is a 13-megapixel camera with autofocus and an LED flash; not a lot bells and whistles here nor fancy camera jargon here.

Under the hood of the Infinix Note 4, and the Note 4 Pro for that matter, is a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. Initial navigation through the device was nice and smooth, but we’ve seen this processing package many times before and we already know that it will mostly cater to moderate users.

The Note 4 and Note 4 Pro are the first devices from the company to run on Android 7.0 Nougat with XOS 2.3 on top of it. There are a few pre-installed apps, but nothing compared to bloatware from other brands. You’ve got a 4,300 mAh battery powering the device and we’re curious to see if their claims of getting 250 minutes of talk time in just 5 minutes of charge via their Xcharge is the real deal.

We’ll be taking the Infinix Note 4 through the usual barrage of tasks before giving you our full review, so check back in a couple of days to see how this device fares.

The Infinix Note 4 is priced at Php 8,999 and is available via Lazada.
