The iPad gets its own OS too

At Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the Cupertino tech giant announced its latest iteration of iOS with iOS 13. Headlining its slew of new features is a system-wide dark mode with majority of iOS’ native apps and several third-party apps gaining support for the battery-saving feature.

Other new features include performance improvements, a swiping keyboard feature, a revamped Reminders app, a completely reworked Maps app, new photo and video editing tools, and support for flash drives and SD cards via the Files App.

iPads get their own operating system with iPadOS. The tablet-only operating system introduces a new home screen and widgets to the iPad that closely resemble MacOS’ notifications and widgets panel. It also gets MacOS’ Expose screen gestures for better multi-tasking.

Other new features include a column view on the Files app, a desktop-class Safari web browser, improved copy-paste functionality, and native mouse support.

iOS 13 will be available to all iPhones from the iPhone 6s onwards. iPadOS is compatible with iPads from iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4 onwards.
