Keep Your Gadgets Virus-Free with UV Light

Keep Your Gadgets Virus-Free with UV Light

I’ve become a bit of a germaphobe since the Corona Virus pandemic.  Nothing enters our home without being disinfected first.  Armed with 70% alcohol or bleach, I wipe down what I can’t wash with soap and water.  While they effectively sanitize, the chemicals can be pretty harsh especially when it comes to electronics.

I was finally able to get my hands on the Momax Q Power UV-Box Sterilizer and Wireless Charger.  This is probably one of the most used gadgets I have at home.  As it says in the box, it effectively kills 99.9% of germs without using alcohol, bleach or other liquid disinfectants that could damage your smartphone, smartwatch, earphones and other gadgets.

It’s very simple and easy to use.  Just plug it in using the micro USB cable that comes in the box, open it, put your gadget inside and press the button on the right.  There are 2 disinfecting modes – fast which takes 18 minutes (my preference because I’m always rushing) and standard which takes 30 minutes.

You even have the option of adding a drop of your favorite fragrance that the Momax Q Power Sterilizer will diffuse to refresh whatever item is being disinfected inside.  While I don’t really use fragrances for my smartphones, I do like adding a bit of citrus aroma to my watches so I get a whiff of my favorite scent whenever I use it.

As the name of the product suggests, the Momax Q Power UV-Box does not just disinfect, it also works as a wireless charger.  While it cannot disinfect and charge the same item simultaneously, you can put one of your gadgets inside the box and while it’s being sanitized, put your smartphone on top of the lid to charge.  It supports 7.5W wireless charging for iOS and 10W wireless charging for Android.

For safety reasons, the Momax Q Power UV-Box stops working when you open the lid even when it’s not yet done disinfecting the item inside, and continues its work when you close it.

Inside the box, you’ll find the documentation which includes the manual, the micro USB cable, a dropper should you want to include fragrance while disinfecting and a microfiber cloth.

Now if you’re looking for something more portable than the Momax Q Power UV-Box Sanitizer, there’s also the Momax UV Pen.  It’s about 11.5cm long and 3cm wide so you can easily slip it in your pocket or put it in your tiny handbag.  It even comes with a nice, leather carrying pouch.  This disinfecting pen works fast and kills germs in just 10 to 30 seconds.  It’s perfect for those quick bank runs where you have to withdraw from an ATM and you have to clean the number pad before using it.  Just make sure to hold it 3cm to 5cm away from the item that you are disinfecting.

It takes around 40 minutes to charge from 0% to 100% and can be used for up to 4 hours.  To start disinfecting, tap the power button twice.  To turn off, simply tap and hold the same button.  For safety, the Momax UV Pen will automatically turn off when the UV-C is facing upward.

Inside the box, you’ll find documents, including the manual, the carrying pouch, a USB-C cable and of course, the UV pen.

In all honesty, it’s difficult to tell if a product is effective if you cannot see the results.  In the case of these UV disinfectants, we cannot really see the germs that it’s supposed to be killing.  In such cases, we need an expert to assure us that the products that we’re trusting really do work and in this case, the Momax UV pen is Hong Kong lab tested and approved.

This may be common knowledge but I feel that I have to mention it anyway.  Please do not look at the UV light of these products.  Never use it on yourself, other people and even your pets. Just as we use sunblock to protect ourselves from the harmful rays of the sun, we musn’t expose ourselves to UV light.

The Momax Q Power UV-Box Sanitizer and Wireless Charger is Php 3,990 but is now being offered at only Php 2,790.  The Momax UV Pen is 2,490 but you can get it for only Php 1,990.  Both UV light disinfectants are available in Digital Walker and homeoffice.ph.
