LG G Pad 8.3 Unboxing!

2013 is the year that LG really turned things around with the quality of their products. Their G Series have nothing but amazing and they took things to the next level with their new flagship smartphone, the LG G2. On the tablet side they’ve also delivered one solid and gorgeous product with the new LG G Pad 8.3. We’ve been playing around with the review unit sent to us by LG Mobile PH and we can tell you now that this is going to be a strong challenger to the Google Nexus 7 (2013) and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. We’ll give this the full review treatment but for now let’s get to the unboxing!

Packaging and Unboxing

Officially unboxed! Officially unboxed!

The LG G Pad 8.3 came in a clean white box. Product hero shot was up front and the usual technical specifications at the back. We peeled off the circular tape holding the box together and popped the lid open. We removed the plastic screen protector on the LG G Pad 8.3, picked it up, and we were immediately enthralled. We’ll get to that in a bit though.

What else is inside? What else is inside?

We set aside the tablet and dug deeper into the box. We didn’t find anything out of the ordinary since the only things left in the box were the micro USB to USB cable, wall charger, quick start guide, and the warranty card.

It was a very straightforward and no-nonsense unboxing experience with the LG G Pad 8.3.

Initial Impressions

One of the nicest looking Android tablets we've ever reviewed. Kinda weird saying that with the Hulk in the photo, hehe. One of the nicest looking Android tablets we’ve ever reviewed. Kinda weird saying that with the Hulk in the photo, hehe.

As we mentioned earlier, we were immediately enamored with the LG G Pad 8.3. First, the 8.3-inch display is just amazing! The thin bezels give much more screen real estate for content and it looked sleek and classy up front (no physical buttons just the LG logo on top and the 2MP front-facing camera). At the back we have polycarbonate plastic at the top and button for better antennae while at the middle we have a metallic plate (looks like Aluminum). The use of metal definitely gives the LG G Pad 8.3 a better profile. It looks and feels much more expensive and better than a lot of tablets that are priced within the same price range.

Along the sides we found the Power Lock and the Volume Rocker. The micro USB port for data transfer and charging was at the bottom while the headphone jack, micro SD card slot (hidden with a tray), and headphone jack were on top. There’s no SIM card slot folks. This model is just WiFi, no 3G or LTE.

What the back looks like What the back looks like

The LG G Pad 8.3 is also remarkably thin. It’s easy to hold and use either in landscape and portrait but the vertically stretched 8.3 display is really perfect for portrait use (web browsing, reading eBooks, social networking, etc). Due to the metal components it’s no the thinnest tablet you can get under 9-inches. The heft though is still comfortable and nothing too much that would cause your arms fatigue quickly.

Look at that! Look at that!

Just as stunning as the form factor is the display. The LG G Pad 8.3 has a full HD IPS 8.3 screen. Colors are warm, bright, and vibrant. Details come out very good as well for photos, text, and videos. The 1920 x 1080 resolution makes it the perfect portable media player and we can already imagine ourselves kicking back and relaxing in the airplane while watching movies and TV series with the LG G Pad 8.3.

When it came to performance, the LG G Pad 8.3 delivered a smooth and fluid Android experience. It was definitely one of the fastest Android tablets we’ve ever had the pleasure of reviewing. The quad-core processor combined with the graphics and RAM all come together beautifully to ensure maximum performance.

Stunning display quality. Stunning display quality.

As far as initial impressions go, we were totally blown away by the LG G Pad 8.3. It’s another delightful surprise from LG and this sets them up for an even stronger and better year ahead in 2014.
