LG Just Outed a V20 Mini: The LG Q8

A 5.2-Inch V20; Quad DAC Included

LG just unveiled three variants of what a lot of people are calling the LG G6 mini, in the Q6 lineup of smartphones; complete with their Full Vision display at an aspect ratio of 18:9. We’ve always thought that LG was a little lacking in the mid-ranged department and it looks like they’re really bolstering up their lineup for this segment, because they’ve just unveiled what is essentially a miniaturized version of the V20 — the LG Q8.

LG Q8 Specifications

  • 2.15GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • Adreno 530 GPU
  • 5.2-inch QHD Quantum IPS display, 2560 x 1440 resolution
    Secondary Display @ 160 x 1040 resolution
  • 32GB of expandable storage
  • 4G, LTE
  • 13-megapixel primary rear camera at f/1.7
    8-megapixel secondary camera at f/2.4
Laser AF, OIS, dual-tone LED flash
  • 5-megapixel front camera at f/1.9
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC
  • GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS
  • Quad DAC
  • Fingerprint Scanner
  • USB Type-C
  • 3000 mAh battery
  • Android 7.0 Nougat

While the Q6 models are getting a mid-ranged SoC in the Snapdragon 435, LG has decided to use the same processor on the V20 — the Snapdragon 820. The quad-core processor is paired of with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage; retaining most of its hardware, which includes the secondary display and that Quad DAC that our EIC, Carlo Ople, praised in our quick review for the device. It has been shrunken down from a 5.7-inch device to a 5.2-inch phone, but we’ll gladly take that hit, since the Korean company has made the Q8 dust and water-resistant with an IP67 rating.

No word on pricing just yet, but the LG Q8 is said to be launching sometime this month; so, it’s not too bad of a wait. This is definitely going to be a bit more expensive than the Q6 phones that are coming next month, but should be a lot more affordable that the Korean brand’s flagship, the G6. If were to venture a guess, we would say it;s going to be priced at around Php 20k to Php 25k. Don’t quote us on that though.
