Logitech t650 Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad

The Logitech t650 Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad is the perfect companion for your Windows 8 laptop or tablet. Not only does it support Windows 8 gestures, it also looks stunningly beautiful and would make for a great conversation piece should you have a visitor in your office or home work desk. We’ve been playing around with a review unit that Logitech PH sent us and we’d like to share with you guys our unboxing experience as well as our initial impressions of the hardware and the features.

Packaging and Hardware Check

When it comes to packaging Logitech has come a long way from their generic techie-centric boxes. The t650 comes in a black and green box with a clean product hero shot at the center and the main features and benefits highlighted just below it. To open it we removed the adhesive tapes at the sides and popped the lid open.

We were immediately greeted with the t650. The smooth glass touch-surface was cool and sleek to the touch and we absolutely loved the dark gray metal finish of the device. The touchpad is lightweight and thin and you won’t find too many controls/buttons and ports. There’s an on-off button at the side and there’s the micro-USB port for charging (no need for AA batteries). There’s also no bluetooth pairing button since this actually works via wireless IR via the USB that you plug-in your laptop or tablet.

Underneath the touchpad in the box you’ll find the manual, USB for the laptop/tablet, and the USB to microUSB cable for charging.

Feature and Real-world Usage Check: Must have for Windows 8 Enthusiasts

When it comes to Windows 8 not everyone has touchscreen laptops. Even if your laptop has touch capabilities not everyone is used to reaching out and touching the screen. This is where the t650 comes in. If you don’t have a touchscreen laptop then you can just whip this out and use this to fully take advantage of the Windows 8 experience. Also if you don’t like the touchscreen of your laptop and you find the built-in trackpad of your laptop then this is again the best solution for you.

With the t650 you can do the edge gestures for app switching, app bar, and charms bar. You can do pinch-to-zoom and three-finger swipes. For the basics you can do left/right clicks anywhere on the surface as it has an embedded sensor for precise tracking.

If you want to take it a step further you can download the support software and program up to 13 customizable gestures. To download the software just plug-in the USB in your Windows 8 laptop.

It also works for Mac OSX and Windows 7

We tried using the t650 with our MacBook Pro and it actually functioned like a normal trackpad. However the lack of customization controls makes it a substandard trackpad compared to the Apple-made Magic Touchpad. It also works for Windows 7 but it really shines in a Windows 8 system because of all the touch gestures built-in to the operating system.
