MediaTek Partners With Google For Android Oreo (Go Edition)

The company will optimize its chips for the lightweight OS

MediaTek has announced that they are a SoC partner for Google’s lightweight, entry-level focused Android Oreo (Go Edition) operating system. According to the Taiwanese company, they now have board support packages available to run Adnroid Oreo (Go Edition) on several chipsets, including the MT6739, MT6737, and MT6580.

These chipsets are all meant for the entry-level market, which is where Google’s Android Oreo (Go Edition) is expected to flourish. MediaTek has said that smartphones powered by its chipsets will be released around the world starting the first quarter of 2018, and will likely show up in markets like India, South East Asia, the Middle East & Africa, and Latin America.
