MediaTek’s Helio P90 Processor Focuses on AI and Hi-Res Photography

It’s a processor with serious AI power

After unveiling the Helio P70 last month, MediaTek launched a new processor with the Helio P90. Described as an “AI Powerhouse”, the Helio P90 comes with MediaTek’s APU 2.0 architecture, which they claim is 4X more powerful than the Helio P60 and P70.

The Helio P90 is an octa-core processor that has two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.2Ghz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2Ghz. Powering the graphics side is a PowerVR GM 9446 GPU. While it is a mid-range processor, the Helio P90 has features normally found on high-end processors. These include support for UFS 2.1 storage, support for LPDDR4X RAM (up to 8GB), and support for either a 48-megapixel or 24-megapixel + 16-megapixel rear cameras.

Speaking of the cameras, the Helio P90’s triple image signal processors (ISPs) supports 14-bit RAW, 10-bit YUV processing, and super slow-mo videos at 480FPS in HD.

The Helio P90 is expected to be available globally in consumer devices starting in Q1 2019.
