MediaTek is rounding out its 5G chip offerings by announcing its new Dimensity 820 5G SoC today. The new chipset is meant to make 5G more accessible, according to the Taiwanese company, and is aimed at premium mid-range phones looking to tap into the new wireless tech.

The chip runs four high-performance Arm Cortex-A76 cores at 2.6GHz, along with an ARM Mali G57 GPU with HyperEngine 2.0 enhancements. The chip will have support for HDR as well as 120Hz refresh rates.

As far as 5G is concerned, the Dimensity 820 has a5G NR (sub-6GHz) modem in the single-chip solution, which has tech like 5G UltraSave Network Environment Detection and 5G UltraSave OTA Content Awareness that make 5G possible with minimal battery consumption.

The chipset also has MediaTek’s APU 3.0 for AI-camera smarts, MediaTek’s Imagiq 5.0 image processing sensor that supports up to 4 cameras at a time, and camera sensors up to 80-megapixels, as well as multi-frame 4K video HDR.

The upcoming Redmi 10X is expected to be the first phone to use the Dimensity 820.
