More RAM than most PC’s today

When ASUS announced their Zenfone 2 and its massive (at the time) 4GB of RAM, many people laughed at the idea. Why would anyone need 4GB of RAM, they said. That’s just a waste, they jeered. Well, fast forward to today, and many, if not all, flagship smartphones recently announced in Mobile World Congress now feature 4GB RAM, which highlights the importance of having as much RAM as possible for a smooth experience.

It’s not surprising then that Chinese company vivo has decided to up the ante by stuffing an almost ridiculous 6GB of RAM in their newest flagship, the Xplay 5 Elite, making it the first phone in the world to break the 4GB RAM barrier. There’s a big chance that the Xplay 5 Elite has more RAM than most typical notebooks sold in the market today.

Aside from that insane RAM, the Xplay 5 Elite also has a number of best-in-class features. The device has a 5.43-inch (really odd screen size there vivo) Super AMOLED QHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 128GB of non-expandable storage. The display of the phone is also quite special, as it uses a dual-edge display much like Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge.

If that wasn’t enough, the Xplay 5 Elite also has a 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 camera with a phase detection AF, dual-tone LED flash, 8-megapixel front camera, dual SIM support, fingerprint scanner and a 3,600mAh battery.

If those specs are a little overkill for you, you can get regular the Xplay 5 version which ditches the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 6GB of RAM for a more sedate Snapdragon 652 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. Almost everything else is the same, from the display to the design and OS, which is incidentally only Android 5.1.
