Meizu Releases the Affordable A5 Smartphone

An Affordable Mid-Ranged Device

It’s not uncommon to see smartphones that just breach the barrier from being an entry-level device to the mid-ranged segment. These at the lower end of the mid-ranged game usually sit at around the Php 6k price point, like the recently reviewed Cherry Mobile Desire R7 Plus, and usually feature a spec sheet that’s just enough for light users. To cater to this budget mid-ranged segment, Meizu has just released the A5; a phone that sports a MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor, a Mali-T720 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.

Meizu A5 Specifications

  • MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • Mali-T720 GPU
  • 5-inch HD display; (1280×720 resolution)
  • 16GB of expandable storage
  • 4G, LTE
  • 8-megapixel rear camera, f/2.0 aperture, LED flash
  • 5-megapixel front camera, f/2.2 aperture
  • WiFi, Bluetooth
  • 3060mAh battery
  • Unspecified version of Android with Flyme OS

The Meizu is similarly specced to the Cherry Mobile Desire R7, but is priced closer to its larger displayed sibling; coming in at 699 Yuan or around Php 5,200 pesos. We wouldn’t be surprised if this smartphone makes it onto our shores, but we have no word on availability in the local market just yet.
