Is your phone on the list?

With the official rollout of Android Marshmallow, you can expect phone manufacturers to begin detailing their upgrade plans in the next few weeks. Leading the charge is Motorola – the previously Google-owned company has detailed which devices will be getting the update to tasty, tasty Android Marshmallow today. Unfortunately, it’s not all good news.

Obviously most of the company’s 2015 releases will be getting Android Marshmallow, including the recently announced Moto X Play, Moto X Style and the Moto G. A few devices from 2014 will also be getting the update, which Include the Moto G, the Moto X and the Moto MAXX.

  • 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd gen)
  • 2015 Moto X Style (3rd gen)
  • 2015 Moto X Play
  • 2015 Moto G (3rd gen)
  • 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the US (2nd gen)
  • 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia2 (2nd gen)
  • 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE2 (2nd gen)
  • DROID Turbo
  • 2014 Moto MAXX
  • 2014 Moto Turbo
  • Nexus 6

Conspicuously missing from the list? Motorola’s Moto E – the company released a 2015 version of that phone, and apparently it’s not getting an update to Marshmallow. Motorola has also announced that they will halt development on some of the apps that they’ve included with their phones. The reasoning is simple – it’s either Android Marshmallow already has them baked in or there’s already more than enough third party alternatives for it.

As far as the actual schedule goes, there’s no word as of yet, but basing on Lollipop’s upgrade sched, you can expect the updates to hit next year.
