Motorola Moto M Starts Receiving Android Nougat

The metal mid-ranger gets Nougat

If you’re an owner of Motorola’s metal mid-range phone, the Moto M, you should be pretty happy by now – users in India are reporting that they’re getting notifications of a new Android update for the device, which brings the Moto M to Nougat from Android Marshmallow.

Motorola Moto M specs

  • 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor
  • Mali-T860MP2 GPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display, 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 32GB internal storage, expandable via microSD
  • 16-megapixel PDAF rear camera with LED flash
  • 8-megapixel front-facing camera
  • Dual-SIM
  • 3G, LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, Glonass, Fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C
  • Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
  • 3,050mAh non-removable battery, 10W rapid charge support

Weighing in at a whopping 1499MB (around 1.5GB), the new update brings Nougat to the phone, allowing owners to experience the new notification system, better battery life via the improved Doze functionality on the device, multi-window functionality, and more.

What’s even better is that it gives hope to other MediaTek-powered handsets that are waiting for Nougat updates. MediaTek-powered devices have had an (unfair) reputation of never getting Android updates – hopefully other MediaTek-powered phones will get their Android Nougat update soon.

If your Moto M hasn’t received a notification for the update yet, don’t fret – the update will be rolled out in waves.
