MWC 2018: Huawei Announces New MateBook X Pro With 91% Screen-to-body Ratio

A notebook built for pros and amateurs alike

While Huawei isn’t announcing any new flagship smartphones today in Mobile World Congress, the Chinese company does have a few things reveal today. First up is their new MateBook X Pro, a new thin and light notebook with a large display, almost non-existent bezels as well as a 3K resolution display.

The display is a 13.9-inch deal, but since the bezels are so thin it has a footprint an 11-incher. Aside from sporting incredibly thin bezels, the LTPS panel boasts of a  3000×2000 resolution panel and is also touchscreen-enabled, making it a perfect choice for productivity-focused individuals. Aside from having a 91% screen-to-body ratio, the thickness of the MateBook X Pro is at 4.9mm at its thinnest point, making it slimmer than the 13-inch MacBook Pro without sacrificing ports, which include a USB 3.0 port, two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 Support, and a headphone jack.

Aside from being a productivity-focused notebook, the Matebook X Pro boasts of a quad speaker setup with support for Dolby Atmos, along with a quad-microphone setup with 360 degree sound recording.

Despite shrinking the bezels, Huawei hasn’t forgotten that notebooks still need a webcam. The Chinese company has cleverly hidden it under the chassis, and only pops up when you need it.

Speaking of chassis, the one on the MateBook X Pro is incredibly thin for a notebook of its class, and power users can take advantage of the MateBook X Pro’s NVIDIA GeForce MX150 with 2GB GDDR5 if they need more oomph. Charging up the MateBook Pro is a breeze with its USB-C charger that is only slightly bigger than a smartphone charger. A quick 30-minute charge will let you use the MateBook X Pro for up to six hours. The MateBook X Pro’s 57.4 Wh battery can last for up to 15 hours of web browsing, 14 hours of office work, and 12 hours of video playback-all on a single charge.

Inside the notebook is an Intel 8th generation Core i5 and i7 series processor, with the notebook available in three variations. Pricing for the MateBook X Pro are as follows:

  • i5/8GB RAM/256GB SSD – 1499 Euro (~Php 95.5K)
