NVIDIA’s Turing-Based GPU is their Most Insane to Date

How does 48GB of GDDR6 sound to you?

In efforts of pushing technology further, NVIDIA launched its first Turing-based GPUs with the Quadro RTX series. What makes them stand out is that they are the first GPU to do ray tracing.

To those not familiar with the tech jargon, ray tracing is a rendering technique where an image is generated by tracing the path of light as pixels and later simulates it with virtual objects. Applications for this tech include scientific visualization, automotive and architectural CAD design, and professional video creation.

The top-range Quadro RTX 8000 is armed with 48GB of GDDR6 memory, along with 4,608 CUDA cores, and 576 Tensor cores. That configuration is capable of 10 gigarays per second and up to 16 teraflops per second. Those numbers are enough to run VR applications smoothly. They come at a price, however: NVIDIA estimates the RTX 8000 to be priced at $10,000(~Php 534.4k), which is a lot of dough to spend unless you are a professional who needs such specs.
