Will this phone ever come here?

Online retailer Gear Best has posted what looks to be a new, unannounced ASUS smartphone, dubbed the X550. The new smartphone sports a new look that’s a slight departure from the Taiwanese company’s Zen design language. The spone sports a metallic frame, as well as a “flowing lattice grain” design on the back to give it a more premium look.

ASUS X550 specs

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 5.5-inch full HD display, 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 16GB of storage, expandable via microSD
  • 13-megapixel rear camera with flash, AF
  • 8-megapixel front camera, f/2.0 aperture
  • 3G, LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS
  • 3030mAh battery
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop

Internally the phone uses Qualcomm’s tried and tested Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, along with 3GB RAM, 5.5-inch full HD display and 16GB of expandable storage. Probably the most interesting feature of the X550 is the hand-print recognition tech that’s built into the phone, that unlocks the display via your palm (by laying it on the display). We’re not entirely sure how well this works to be completely honest.

We’ve reached out to ASUS PH to try and confirm if this is an actual product that they carry but we haven’t heard from them as of yet. It’s more than likely at this point that the device is a China-only smartphone, though if you’re brave enough you can get it from Gear Best at just $259.99 or around Php 12.1K.
