OnePlus Reveals Upcoming 120Hz Display Tech

The race to mainstream 120hz displays is on

The ASUS ROG Phone 2 and Razer Phone 2 lead the pack for packing 120hz high refresh rate displays last year. Towards the end of 2019 and the first weeks of 2020, Redmi and Realme caught up with the high refresh rate race with the Redmi K30 and Realme X50.

Between the four phones, only the Razer Phone 2 boasts of a Quad HD+ resolution, making it the benchmark for high-end displays. We know Samsung is going to implement Quad HD+ 120Hz displays on the Galaxy S20 series, and OnePlus confirmed they will be doing the same for their next major phone release.

The Verge reports that OnePlus CEO Pete Lau himself confirmed that its next major phone will have a 120hz display. For the display, OnePlus has worked with Samsung to develop the OLED display and will use a custom MEMC (motion estimation/motion compensation) to bring 120hz to videos.

Other details about the display include 1000 nits peak brightness (with 4096 levels of brightness adjustment), 240hz touch sampling rate, 8.3ms rendering time per frame, and support for 10-bit color.
