Oppo Is Making Their Own Foldable phone

Foldable phones are on the rise and there’s a lot of growth for smartphones in this segment as proven by Samsung and Motorola’s own offerings. OPPO is the latest company preparing their entry into the segment, after securing a patent for a clamshell phone that’s likely to rival Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip.

OPPO, which is among the top 5 performing mobile brands in the world, is preparing its own clamshell-like foldable smartphone, at least according to leaks. The company recently filed a new patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) which was approved and published on September 3.

What we know about the OPPO foldable phone so far is that it makes use of a rotating hinge with gears, allowing the handset to have four different usable angles. LetsGoDigital shared a set of renders based on the patent images, with OPPO forgoing the external display that shows notifications, unlike the Moto RAZR and Galaxy Z Flip. OPPO’s prototype offers a conventional bezel-less display when unfolded, as well as a center-aligned punch hole camera.

There’s no indication of the number of cameras this phone will have based on the patents. But the renders reveal a three-rear camera module which is up-to-par with most smartphones available in the market. We can expect OPPO to deliver nothing short of the standard fare given that they’ve been competitive with their multi-camera line of phones. At this point, all we can say is that nothing is set in stone for OPPO’s fold-phone except that they are going to throw in a fold-phone into the market, hopefully in the near future.
