OPPO Now Top Dog In Philippines, Overtaking Cherry Mobile

Smartphone sales in the Philippines decreased, however

There’s a new king in town: after holding the top spot for several years, Cherry Mobile has been overtaken by OPPO according to Canalys’ Q3 2018 report. In its latest report, OPPO has 20% of the market share in the Philippines, with Cherry Mobile trailing behind at 19.3%. Vivo gets the third spot at 12.5%.

The market share in the Philippines differs from its neighboring countries in Southeast Asia as Samsung remains to be the top dog in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia in spite of decreasing smartphone sales for 2018. For the four countries, OPPO remains to be in either the 2nd or 3rd spot.

“OPPO’s performance was most notable, as it was the only vendor that appeared in the top three in all five of the largest markets,” says Canalys research analyst Jin Shengtao.

This development comes at a time where the overall smartphone shipment in Southeast Asia dropped by 3%. The Philippines experienced a 3.1% drop, while Thailand has the biggest drop at 20.1%. Canalys points the decline due to the ongoing Sino-US trade war.

OPPO’s current lineup includes the F9, Find X, A3s, R17 Pro, and the recently-announced A7.
