OPPO Officially Unveils 10x Optical Zoom and Next-Gen UD Fingerprint Scanner

A preview of what the company is capable of

OPPO held a press conference in China today, and the Chinese brand showcased two new technologies: its much-talked-about 10x optical zoom tech and a next-generation under-display (UD) fingerprint scanner.

The former is a refinement of its 5x optical zoom tech it showcased at MWC 2017. For this iteration, OPPO paired its 5x optical zoom tech with a wide-angle lens to achieve a 10x lossless optical zoom. You get features like Dual OIS, Panorama as well, making it a complete package for a photography-centric smartphone. Accompanying the 10x optical zoom tech is a third regular lens found in the middle of the two lenses needed for the broad optical zoom tech.

OPPO claims that their new tech gives future smartphones an effective focal length of 15.9mm-159mm. That’s quite a feat since Huawei’s P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro have an effective focal range of 27mm-80mm and 16mm-80mm respectively.

Aside from the 10x optical zoom tech, OPPO also showcased its next-generation UD fingerprint scanner. OPPO claims that it is 15x bigger than the one found on the R17/R17 Pro, and can read two fingerprints at the same time.

OPPO is expected to showcase both new tech at MWC 2019, so we will know more about them in-depth by then.
