OPPO’s 10x Lossless Zoom Tech Pushes the Limits of Smartphone Photography

An improvement on its 5x zoom tech

After unveiling its world’s first 10x lossless zoom tech in China, OPPO detailed further on its groundbreaking new tech at its press conference at MWC 2019.

To make this possible, OPPO made use of a triple rear camera setup comprising of a 48-megapixel main camera, a 120-degree ultra wide-angle lens, and a telephoto lens. Combining all three lenses, OPPO’s new tech covers from 16mm to 160mm seamlessly.

Like the 5x zoom tech it has unveiled at MWC 2017, the 10x lossless zoom tech makes use of a periscopic module to keep the module slim at 6.76mm—which is roughly as thick as the camera module of the R17 Pro. With a 0.001445-degree of stabilization precision for its dual OIS feature, OPPO assures that its 10x lossless zoom is very usable in a wide variety of lighting situations.

The biggest surprise is its availability: OPPO announced that it has begun production of this tech, and will make it available to their flagship phone by the second quarter of 2019. OPPO did not specify which phone will get the 10x lossless zoom tech, but rumors point to the R19 and R19 Pro as the first phones to sport 10x lossless zoom.
