Project Treble A Success as Major Android Updates are Rolling Out Faster than Ever

Adoption Rate has significantly improved as well

Following the initial rollout of Android 10 to all Pixel phones, Essential Phone PH-1, OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, and Nokia 8.1, Google will be rolling out Android 10 faster than ever to a big number of phones—all thanks to Project Treble.

The initiative started with Android Oreo, where the main objective is to streamline the rollout of major Android updates. Google reports that the adoption rate has jumped from 8.9% for Android Oreo in late July 2018 to 22.6% for Android Pie in late August 2019.

In addition, the report also said that the upgrade time is faster by three months from Android Pie to Android 10 compared to Android Oreo to Android Pie.

In addition to Project Treble, Google introduced the Partner Beta Program with Android Pie, where 7 phones from 7 OEMs was given a headstart to try out Android Pie Beta before it was launched to the public. With Android 10, Google has increased the number of phones receiving Android 10 Beta to 18 devices.

As of this writing, Xiaomi, ASUS, LG, Motorola, OPPO, Realme, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Transsion, and Vivo have committed to roll out Android 10 to their devices by the end of the year. This also puts most brands at pace with Google’s mandate that all new phones should run Android 10 by January 2020.
