#ProjectBalikAlindog with Sony

Sony sends us products for review every now and then, but these are the most apt for this time of the year. As we all know, the number 1 New Year’s Resolution made around the globe is to lose all the holiday weight they’ve gained or just live a more active lifestyle altogether. These resolutions are often broken a few days or weeks after they’ve been made, unless one really commits to the goals they’ve set. If you’re ready to make the commitment to your new workout and meal plan, here are a couple of products from Sony that may help you guys on your personal #ProjectBalikAlindog in time for this year’s beach season.

MDR-XB80BS

Let’s start off with the MDR-XB80BS. These wireless sports in-ear headphones in the Extra Bass audio lineup are splash-proof and are even washable in case you want to clean it thoroughly after a particular sweaty session at the gym. They hook around your ear and ship with different sized silicon earbuds to ensure a comfortable fit as you workout. It’s battery has been rated to last for 7 hours of playback and our real world tests suggest that they do have the endurance to do so. Once you run out of juice, it supports fast charging when you need a quick boost if you forget to plug it in before a run and NFC to connect it fast to your device; though it does pair rather easily over Bluetooth. If you value audio quality, the MDR-XB80BS has LDAC to let you stream high quality audio that sounds really great. It is, of course, part of the Extra Bass series so expect really rich bass with these earphones; though overall sound quality is awesome! The MDR-XB80BS are priced at Php 6,999.

MDR-XB50BS

If you’re on a tighter budget, these pair of wireless headphones should be right up your alley. The MDR-XB50BS are priced at Php 3,999 and are also part of Sony’s Extra Bass audio line. On the outside, it’s easy to see the differences between the XB80BS and the XB50BS. These pair of headphones are still in-ear headphones but have fins to help it get a snug fit in your ears rather than having the unit curl behind them. We prefer how the XB80BS sits around our ears over the XB50BS, but that doesn’t mean that these headphones aren’t comfy either. They’re also splash-proof, so they can stand up to intense workouts, but aren’t washable. The main difference the two headphones is that this doesn’t have LDAC. Despite that, the XB50BS still sound amazing with a great amount of clarity and, of course, deep bass beats if you like working out to EDM tracks.

Sony Smartband 2

This is the Sony Smartband 2. Yup, all you have to do is pop the unit back into the wristband, and download its accompanying app to use the Sony Smartband 2. We like its minimalistic design as you can only pretty much see a black or white band; making it a tad easier to pair with your workout gear or the clothes you wear to work. The lack of a display on the unit itself means you’ll constantly have to open the app to check on your heart rate and other activities and is a bit of a turn off since most fitness trackers at this price point won’t have you tethered to your device as much. It does, however, perform really well. If you’ve read our article on Apps That You Should Start Using in 2017, you may remember that we suggest DDP Yoga; which I have personally doing for quite some time now. The workouts require to constantly check your heart rate so you know when to take a bit of a breather or pick it up if you aren’t working hard enough, and the Sony Smartband 2 has been a great help in this department. The Sony Smartband 2 is priced at Php 6,990.

So there you have it, just a handful of tech from Sony to help you pursue your fitness goals in the New Year. If you were to ask us what our top pick in the list would be if you only had the budget for one of them, we would definitely recommend getting the MDR-XB80BS wireless sport headphones. They sound amazing and, just like their products in the Extra Bass line, they provide a good amount of lows without sacrificing the mids or highs.

With that, we hope you guys are having a fantastic New Year’s Day with your family and friends! To more tech in 2017!
