PSA: Alpha Luxe Users, Don’t Install Windows 10 Technical Preview OTA

Don’t install that update

Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe owners are reporting that they have received a notification for Windows 10 Technical Preview build, version number 10536. The new build allows current Windows 8.1 users to take a sneak peek at Windows 10 on mobile devices, though it’s supposed to be available only for Lumia owners and ONLY people in Microsoft’s Fast Ring Windows Insiders program.

Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe specs

  • 1.2GHz quad-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 5-inch IPS HD display, Dragontrail Glass
  • 8GB of storage, expandable via microSD
  • 8-megapixel rear camera
  • 2-megapixel front camera
  • WiFi, Bluetooth
  • Dual-SIM
  • Windows Phone 8.1
  • 2000mAh battery
  • Php 4,999

Apparently Microsoft has made a boo boo, and Microsoft’s Gabe Aul has said that users who received the OTA should NOT install it on their phones. Gabe says that they had problems with detectoids which allowed non-Lumia devices to receive the update. If you do install the update, chances are your phone is in big trouble – Gabe says that you’ll have to flash your phone again since the build won’t work on devices that it’s not designed for.

If you really want to see Windows 10 ahead of everybody else, you’ll need to buy a Lumia device first, and then sign up for Microsoft’s Windows Insiders program.
