Qualcomm Reportedly Developing Processor Specifically For Android Go Phones

It won’t be part of the Snapdragon family

Chipmaker Qualcomm is reportedly already testing a specially made budget processor to power affordable Android Go smartphones which won’t fall under the company’s regular Snapdragon line of processors.

Instead, reports say that Qualcomm may market these processors as the Qualcomm Mobile 215 or QM215 instead. This new processor is quite possibly related to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 and 425, and will use a quad-core CPU arrangement clocked at 1.3GHz and a GPU clocked at 650Hz. The lithography is quite large, as it’s expected to be built on a 28nm process.

Qualcomm’s already testing the new processor with phones that have 1GB and 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8/16GB of storage, which is basically the hardware configuration of most Android Go-powered smartphones today. Despite the large lithography of the QM215, the new processor may perform as well as current Android Go solutions for cheaper once Qualcomm figures out the kinks, considering that they’re making it specifically for Android Go from the get-go.
