Qualcomm Unveils Desktop-Centric Snapdragon 850

Optimized for ARM-based Windows laptops

Qualcomm just unveiled a new chip in the form of the Snapdragon 850. This chip is designed to be used with laptops and 2-in-1s. It replaces the Snapdragon 835 that was used in some laptops last year.

The new processor boasts of Kryo 385 Gold cores that have a clock speed of 2.95Ghz—which is slightly faster than the overclocked Snapdragon 845 processor used in ASUS’ ROG Phone.

Comparing to last year’s Snapdragon 835, the Snapdragon offers up to 30% better performance and 20% better LTE speeds while sporting around 20% better battery life.

Expect the new SoC to be used in Windows-ARM laptops by the end of this year.
