Google and Samsung unveil the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Meet the Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was originally scheduled to be unveiled earlier this month but was postponed due to the death of Apple Inc. Founder and Icon Steve Jobs. It was finally revealed earlier this morning in an event in Hong Kong. What’s so special about this Android phone? It’s the first Android smartphone to ship with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system! This is the unified OS that will work for both Android smartphones and tablets.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Specs

Other than the new OS, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus also has solid hardware. It has a beautiful 4.65″ HD Super AMOLED display with 1280×720 pixels. That’s almost near Apple’s Retina Display and you have a bigger screen too! It also packs a powerful dual-core 1.2GHz processor. The Galaxy Nexus can connect to HSPA+ but it there will be a model later on that will have the capability to connect to LTE.

One letdown is probably the camera. It just has a 5MP camera (LED Flash and Auto Focus) but it can record full 1080p video. This is a bit weird for me since all other high-end phones are brandishing their 8MP cameras.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus or Motorola Droid RAZR?

If I were to switch to Android I’m leaning heavily towards the Motorola Droid RAZR more due to the design of the phone as well as the better camera. It will get Android Ice Cream Sandwich as an update anyway and you don’t need a different unit for LTE. That’s just me though.

Anyway, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS should be available in Q4 as well as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
