Samsung Galaxy S8 is All About the Display?
A few days ago there was a leak of schematics comparing the Samsung Galaxy S8 with other smartphone flagships in the market. Based on the designs, the Galaxy S8’s main selling point will be the amount of display you get despite the size of the phone. What does this mean? Basically this:
- It’s the same size as the iPhone 7 but the Galaxy S8 gives you a 5.8-inch display compared to the iPhone 7’s 4.7-inch screen.
- It’s the same size as the iPhone 7 Plus but the Galaxy S8+ gives you a 6.2-inch display compared to the iPhone 7 Plus’ 5.5-inch screen.
How did they do this? It boils down to the hardware design. Samsung was able to drastically reduce the size of the bezels on all four sides giving users more screen real estate. And we all know how gorgeous Samsung’s Super AMOLED display technology is.
Here are the schematic designs for your reference:
It looks like the trend for this year is about having more display with the same physical phone size by reducing bezels. That’s what the LG G6 is all about and the Galaxy S8 is also on the same path. Won’t be surprised if we also see the same kind of design thinking with the new iPhone later this year.
