Samsung Working on a In-Display Front Camera Tech

Samsung Working on a In-Display Front Camera Tech

Patents for the said tech have recently surfaced

While Vivo has formally introduced in-display fingerprint scanning tech, Samsung is trying to up their game by developing an in-display front camera, in efforts of ditching the notch entirely. In a recent patent filing, the diagrams reveal an earpiece, front camera, and other sensors found underneath the display. It is a similar implementation to the original Mi MIX, but more refined since it has a more traditional front camera placement.

However, as much as this would be the solution to a notch-free, bezel-free display, this is not possible for the meantime. To make the in-display camera work, a new OLED screen should be made, where it boast of a refresh rate high enough to let the camera peek through when it is activated. Think of it as a “camera shutter” on the OLED screen itself. While there was an earlier patent for it, we haven’t seen this materialize with an actual device.
