Samsung Working on Custom Exynos Chip for Google

To power the next Pixel phone?

With Samsung making its Exynos processor available to other brands like vivo and Meizu, new reports state that Google will be Samsung’s next client for its Exynos processors. Even more interesting is that Samsung will be designing a custom Exynos processor for Google, incorporating Google’s Visual Core ISP and NPU.

According to the report, the custom Exynos processor will be built on Samsung’s 5nm EUV process and will have a 2/2/4 core configuration: two Cortex-A78, two Cortex-A76, and four Cortex-A55. There’s no information yet on the Cortex-A78, but the Cortex-A77 is 20% faster than the Core-A76. For the GPU, the custom Exynos processor will be using an upcoming Mali MP20 that is codenamed Borr.

While we expect this processor to be possibly used on the next Pixel phones, Google might use them for Chromebooks like Samung’s Galaxy Chromebook and Google’s PixelBook. Aside from Google, Facebook might enlist Samsung’s services for its Oculus AR and VR products.
