Samsung’s China-only Flip Phone Has The Widest Lens Aperture Yet

F/1.5, beating out all the flagships

Samsung’s still selling flip-phones, or clamshell phones in China, and their latest one, the W2018 has something that not even their current flagship the Galaxy Note 8 has.

No, it’s not a faster processor than their Exynos 8895, it’s an ultra wide f/1.5 aperture on its lens, which beats out the f/1.6 currently on LG’s V30.

Aperture sizes determine the amount of light and depth of field that’s applied each time you press the shutter button, with lower apertures allowing more light, and thus, better photos. It’s surprising then that a flip phone in China gets this particular aperture size ahead of their other flagships.

As far as the other specs of the W2018, it’s probably the only flagship clamshell you’ll be able to buy today (if you’re in China): Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, two 4.2-inch full HD displays, as well as a 12-megapixel rear camera with 1.4 ?m pixels.
