Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 Passes Rigorous Torture Test

It survived what many phones couldn’t

With Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 being shipped to pre-order customers in the US this week, it wasn’t long until YouTube channel JerryRigEverything managed to get their hands on one and proceed to do what they do best: torture test it until it died a horrible, horrible death. But much to our surprise, Samsung’s latest flagship phone wasn’t as fragile as we thought it would be – it actually survived the torture test with flying colors.

Common sense dictates that the mostly glass, curved display phone wouldn’t hold up to the battery of tests that JerryRigEverything subjects most devices to, but despite that the Galaxy Note 8 held up just fine. The front got scratched up only with Moh’s level six hardness picks, which means the Gorilla Glass 5 panel works wonders with the device when it comes to scratch protection.

Despite the fingerprint scanner being easily scratched with a razor, it still manages to function well with cosmetic damage. Bending the phone with your bare hands won’t really do anything, as it’s almost impossible to bend without the aid of a machine.

The only thing that manages to damage the Note 8 is fire on the screen – ten seconds worth of fire on the display is enough to permanently scar and kill the display. Because of the difference of technologies when it comes to Super AMOLED displays and LCD panels, the Note 8 can’t recover from that burn test like other phones do.

That’s not really a big issue since it’s highly unlikely that the Galaxy Note 8 will be facing a lot of situations near open flames, and its comforting to know that that Php 49,990 buys you a highly durable smartphone – just don’t drop it on its corners.
