Samsung’s Mid-range A-series Phones Will Likely Get Water-resistance Next Year

We’ve already talked about Samsung’s upcoming 2017 refresh of their mid-range, A-series of devices and their possibly water-resistant bodies before, but a new report out of Korea seems to confirm the leaks. According to BusinessKorea, most of Samsung’s Galaxy A handsets that will be released next year will have a design that’s reminiscent of the Galaxy S7 and will have IP68 water and dust resistance.

The report isn’t suprising, considering that this year’s crop of A series devices had mostly the same features and design language as the Galaxy S6 that came before them. Samsung’s making it a point to cascade the features and design language of their previous flagship devices to their mid-range A-line of phones in a bid to make them more attractive to prospective consumers who want the feel and featureset of flagship phones but can’t fork out the big bucks for them.

According to the report, the IP68 certification will come to the A5 and the A7, but no word on the lower-end A3. Samsung’s high-end Galaxy S7 and the aborted Galaxy Note 7 also had IP68 water resistance as well.
