Samsung’s New ISOCELL Sensor can Shoot Full HD at 480FPS

A 3-stack Fast Readout Sensor makes it possible

Ahead of the launch of the Galaxy S9 and S9+, Samsung teased on new ISOCELL sensors on its site. Among the interesting lines are the ISOCELL Fast line, which has the ability to shoot Full HD video at 480FPS with the help of 3-stack fast readout sensor, Dual Pixel and Super PD sensor. While we are not sure about recording limitations, Samsung’s new tech can go head-to-head with Sony’s Motion Eye: While Sony’s version can record double the FPS at 960, it is limited to HD shooting compared to Samsung’s tech.

There are other specialty ISOCELL sensors on the site like the low-light oriented ISOCELL Bright, which boasts of a Tetracell tech and Smart WDR for improved detail rendition. There’s also the dual camera-optimized ISOCELL Dual, which boasts of improved low-light shooting, optical zoom, and DSLR-like out-of-focus photos.

We’re not sure what the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be using, but our safe guess would be that the S9 will use ISOCELL Bright, while the S9+ will use ISOCELL Dual. What do you think?
