Steve Jobs changed the game when he showed the world the very first iPhone nearly 10 years ago. You’ll probably chuckle at its specs now, with its internal storage of 8GB and paltry 2-megapixel camera, but it was a huge deal back then. It sparked a new race in the consumer electronics segment and was one of the first steps to bring us the amazing handsets we currently use on a daily basis. The first generation iPhone was priced at $499 for the 4GB version, or around Php 22,400 — if you average out the exchange rate in 2007. That’s a serious chunk of change! Like all consumer electronics, the price of such devices lose their value over time. Unless, of course, you keep them mint in box and wait until it becomes a collector’s item in which case, the value of an item goes up. Way up.

That’s exactly what one seller on eBay did.

theappleipodbay, a seller on eBay seeks to collect on year’s of keeping two (2) First Generation Apple iPhone 8GB Apple iPhone in stock. The asking price for the sealed iPhone? $22,499. That’s 1.12M converted into Philippine Pesos. As of the time of writing this, the auction listing is about to close and it looks like no one is biting. It’s probably for the best, seeing you could buy a decent car with change to make a sizeable downpayment on a house at that price. It looks like theappleipodbay may have to try his luck some other time.
