Several Sony Handsets Will Skip Android 5.1 And Go Directly To Marshmallow

Direct update to Marshmallow is in the cards

If you’re the owner of a Sony Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia C4, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and a Xperia M5 you might have been wondering why the Japanese company hasn’t pushed out an Android 5.1 update as of yet. Well, we have good news – it looks like Sony is skipping Android 5.1 and going directly to Marshmallow for the devices mentioned. Sony’s support pages for the devices list Android 6.0 as the next OS that these devices will get.

Which makes sense – owners would probably appreciate the Marshmallow update over the 5.1 Lollipop update, and it makes sense to skip an incremental update for an entirely new version. No word yet when the Marshmallow update will drop.

  1. Good idea Sony! My Uno worked so much better with 6.0 compared to 5.1 which claimed to have fixed many 5.0 bugs. Many still remained though like the home buttons suddenly disappearing, or the lock screen not working. Marshmallow was what Lollipop should have been.

  2. Matatagalan pa ang marshmallow sa z3 at z3 compact dahil kakaupdate lang last february into lollipop. Sony still sticking to their promise of 2 years update.
