Sharp Aquos Phone SH930W (Php19,990)

I never thought I’d by saying this but it looks like Sharp, a company that we all know more for their TVs, came out with one of the sexiest smartphones in the market. Dubbed the Sharp Aquos Phone SH930W, the device boasts of a full HD (1920×1080) 5-inch display. That comes out to around 443 pixels per inch. The glass itself is equally impressive as it’s made of curved Corning Gorilla glass which is not only stylish but is also tough. Sharp also made it a point to keep the phone as slim and light as possible as it measures just 9.1mm thick and weighs in at just 144g. Definitely impressive on paper.

Here’s a quick rundown of the specifications:

Sharp Aquos Phone SH930W Spec Sheet

  • 1.5GHz Dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor
  • Adreno 225 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32GB Internal Storage, expandable via microSD
  • 5-inch full HD (1920×1080) capacitive display (~443 ppi)
  • 8-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash
  • Records 1080p Full HD video
  • 2-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 3G, HSPA+
  • WiFi, WiFi Hotspot, FM Radio, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Feel UX
  • 2,100mAh battery

Off-hand my only worry is the dual-core processor if it can handle the power needed for the 5-inch Full HD display. We’ll get to that during the full review later on though. For now check out our unboxing and initial impressions!

Unassuming and simple box

You'll never guess that the phone inside it is sizzling hot.
You’ll never guess that the phone inside it is sizzling hot.

The Sharp Aquos SH930W comes in a surprisingly plain white printed carton box. The material and style is similar to the one we see in the iPhone with the hard lid and the soft interior compartment. At the front of the box you’ll find a photo of the phone as well as the Sharp brand name. At the back you’ll find the specifications. Personally I think Sharp could’ve done a better job in highlighting the specs of this device at the front. The only way you’ll find out that this is potentially a beast of a machine is if you check the back.

Beautiful!
Beautiful!

The gorgeous 5-inch screen of the Aquos SH930W looked right back at us after we opened the box. In our hands the device felt very light and it was strikingly thin especially when compared to other 5-inch and up phones like the Galaxy Note II or the Lenovo K860. The tapered back and the flowing curved glass really makes you think that it’s much more thinner than it actually is. For this we have to give mad props to Sharp. They did good here.

What else is in the box?

Lots of stuff inside

Other than the actual phone you’ll also find the charger, USB to micro USB cable, screen protector (yay), manual, and earphones inside. Cheers to Sharp for including the free screen protector.

Sezzy Hawt Phone with Equally Gorgeous Display Quality

The main feature of the device is the display quality. It has a Full HD screen at 1920×1080 resolution. The high quality of the screen is very evident as soon as you turn on the phone. Images are crisp, detailed, and sharp! Here are a few pictures with the screen on. Note though that it’s kinda hard to capture the actual quality using our camera so it really is much better than what we can show you with this post.
