Should You Get the iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X?

The iPhone X

With the looming launch of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X here in the Philippines, we’re getting a lot of questions asking which of the two devices they should go for. Fortunately for you guys we went ahead and paid the ridiculous and absurd prices to get both of them ahead of the official launch. We’ve also been using both the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X alternatively as our daily drivers. Based on our experience with both devices, here are the “classifications” of different types of people who should go for either device.

You Should Go for the iPhone X if…

If you are an Android Defector.
The iPhone X can go toe-to-toe against most Android flagships in the market today. It delivers a full screen design, blazing fast internals, best-in-class cameras, and a novel gesture based user interface and user experience. Most of the features that you love on your Galaxy S8 or Pixel will be present with the new iPhone X.

If you are a Diehard Apple Fanboy.
If you want the very best Apple has to offer, pull the trigger on the iPhone X.

If you just want something new.
If you’re sick and tired of the same old iPhone every year and you’re seriously considering shifting to Android, go for the iPhone X. It’s a fresh take on the iPhone and it will really feel like a new phone versus the previous iPhone models.

If you are obsessed with Selfies.
Selfie shots with Portrait Mode are the bomb. Also works wonders for Couple-fies as we shared in our full review of the iPhone X.

You Should Go for the iPhone 8 Plus if…

If you are an iPhone Loyalist.
If you love the current build and design of the iPhone, go for the iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone X is a big departure from the original because of the death of the Home Button and the new Face ID technology. If you’re afraid of change but you want the best internals, best cameras, better battery life, and wireless charging in an iPhone, go for the iPhone 8 Plus.

If you are on a tight budget.
The postpaid plans and the straight cash options for the iPhone 8 Plus make it more affordable compared to the iPhone X. If you’re on a tight budget, it makes more sense to go with the iPhone 8 Plus. Better yet, stick to your current phone and save up so that next year you can get the iPhone 9 or iPhone X-2.

If you are practical.
At the end of the day the biggest day-to-day “upgrades” the iPhone X brings are the ff: new design, Face ID, animojis, and portrait selfies. If you don’t need any of those, you can save cash by just going with the iPhone 8 Plus.
